Österling and Trio Gáman

Österling's most recent piece
Scenes for trio, is soon to be premiered
by danish trio Gáman - a trio consisting of renowned young danish musicians.

Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen, violin
Andreas Borregaard, accordeon

Scenes is a piece in three short movements. The simple idea is to use the timbre of these seldom combined instruments to create a kind of inner sceneries that bears distant traces of drama or stories untold.

Nine symphonies project

Nine symphonies project

Österling invites you to buy one of his nine upcoming symphonies. They will be crafted as personal portraits of the commissioning person - or someone of his/her choice. The first symphony has already been commissioned by the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra - it will be composed as a portrait of the composer Robert Schumann. The swedish wind ensemble

The swedish wind ensemble has elected Fredrik Österling to the post of chairman of the board. The ensemble is one of the few professional wind orchestras still operating in Sweden. Together with their chief conductor Christian Lindberg, the orchestra has created a unique sound with popular appeal.

Soloist competition in Helsingborg

Österling's recorder concerto Thisbe was played in the last round of the prestigious soloist competition Solistpriset. Recorder player Katarina Widell is a former student of Dan Laurin - who played the world premiere a couple of years ago. The Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra accompanied Katarina in the concert, that took place April 19.

This unique instrument will now be challenged by the intricacies of Österling's rhetoric. Premiere scheduled sometime 2009 in the ensemble's series at Schönberg center, Vienna.

The Nose-flute

Fredrik Österling and writer Magnus Lindman have recently started the research for their upcoming opera, The Nose-flute. During two days in january, they have followed the minister for culture and sports, Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, and her staff to get a sense of the ministerial atmosphere. The Nose-flute is set in a fictitious Sweden with a fictitious minister for culture in the principal part.

“In a serious and humorous fashion, we want to show what happens when the arts, culture and politics meet. We will also divulge what nose-flutes have to do with the ministry”, says Fredrik Österling and Magnus Lindman in a slightly cryptic way. The opera will have it’s premiere July 2009 at the Vadstena Opera. The opera will be staged by Stina Ancker.
